The music Akim El Sikameva plays, swings between two countries and two continents, between tradition and modernity, between acoustic and electrical music, and between elitist and popular music. Whereas rhythms and melodies are exploring his own heritage, the lyrics are full of modern discoveries : the biggest part, which is influenced by Arabico-Andalusian influences, comes out besides sparkling Gypsy tunes, Flamenco, African and Jazz tunes, as well as Walsz and Latino music. Far from being imitations, Akim manages to deeply mix all these elements. He models them, following the pattern of his own life, which is fed by intercultural dialogues and denies boarders. All along his career, the texts Akim has written have developed a lot. In his early songs, the lyrics presented some shy and abstract pictures of love as well as the typical beauty of Arabico-Andalusian poesy. Whereas today, he openly speaks about his own experience of exile, and above all the love he now sings becomes much more naughty !
